2.3 Walkable Neighborhoods: Sidewalks and Pathways
Mandatory
Include sidewalks or other suitable pathways within a multifamily property or single family subdivision to encourage walking within and off the site and connectivity to the surrounding environment.
Green Communities and the Green Communities Criteria are a national initiative of Enterprise Community Partners to transform the affordable housing sector. For more information go to www.greencommunitiesonline.org
Minnesota Overlay
In addition to everything detailed under this item in the national Green Communities Criteria, add:
The actual construction of sidewalks and pathways may be waived for seemingly isolated developments that are not subdivisions, provided that right-of-ways are reserved for future sidewalks or pathways.
SUBDIVISION: A tract of land divided into five or more lots or parcels.
Overlay Considerations
Minimizing the visual impact of garages can be achieved by placing the garage in the rear or on the side of a home which will provide a more traditional residential streetscape, encourage pedestrian activity and improve safety.
