The national Green Communities Criteria is modified as follows:

Install ENERGY STAR-labeled power vented fans or ENERGY STAR-labeled range hoods. All fans/hoods shall exhaust to the exterior. Kitchen exhaust fan may be non-ducted only if the project's Mechanical Engineer determines it is infeasible to do so and there is at least one continuously operating bathroom fan.

Section 505.1: Domestic Systems
Where domestic range hoods and domestic appliances equipped with downdraft exhaust are located within dwelling units, such hoods and appliances shall discharge to the outdoors through sheet metal ducts constructed of galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum or copper. Such ducts shall have smooth inner walls and shall be air-tight and equipped with a backdraft damper.

Note: Some exceptions apply to this section of the IMC, including ductless hoods and the use natural ventilation instead of forced.

Specify fans or hoods that are ENERGY STAR labeled. If substitutions are allowed, only allow substitutions that are ENERGY STAR labeled.
