7.3 Formaldehyde-free Composite Wood
Mandatory
Do not use any composite wood in any area that has exposed particleboard (which contains urea-formaldehyde), unless the exposed area has been sealed.

Important Considerations
Specifications
Specify formaldehyde-free or sealed composite wood in any exposed areas in the materials and methods sections of the following specification sections, or any sections that include wood or wood composite materials. If substitutions are allowed, only allow substitutions of products that are formaldehyde free in exposed areas.
06 00 00 (06000) Wood Plastics and Composites Specify that all moldings, counter substrates, and cabinets be sealed on all sides including backs, undersides, and edges.
