E4: Model and evaluate performance

Energy modeling and simulation can greatly improve the overall energy performance of a building. Post-construction evaluation of building performance provides information that can improve the performance of future projects.

  • Do a building energy analysis, such as computer energy modeling, to evaluate and optimize the building's energy performance.
  • Perform a cost-benefit analysis to consider long-term operation costs, as well as first costs from both economic and environmental perspectives
  • Implement a quality assurance program for the construction phase of the project and follow with post-construction testing to verify that intended outcomes of energy reduction strategies were met
  • Collect and analyze utility bills to monitor long-term building performance
