E1c: Integrate daylighting with efficient electric lighting |
Efficient and well-designed daylighting can save energy consumption from electric lighting and improve the quality of the indoor environment for residents. When electric lighting is necessary, appropriate fixture choices and design can also minimize energy consumption.
- Shape the architectural plan and section to accommodate daylighting devices such as roof monitors, clerestory windows, atria, and courtyards
- Meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® Advanced Lighting Package standards
- Use controls like dimmers, occupancy sensors, photocell dimmer sensors, and timers to reduce energy use where appropriate
- Use photovoltaic (PV) powered outdoor light fixtures
